Every box you send to Amazon’s warehouses needs an FBA box label, also called a box ID label. It tells the fulfillment center which shipment the box belongs to and what is inside, so your units get checked in quickly and correctly. Here is how to print FBA box labels, where to put them and the mistakes that cause receiving problems.
Box labels vs product labels
- Product labels go on each individual unit: an Amazon barcode or an eligible manufacturer barcode. See FNSKU vs UPC.
- FBA box labels go on each shipping box and identify the box within your shipment.
- Carrier labels are the shipping labels from UPS or your carrier, needed to deliver the box.
How to print FBA box labels
- In Seller Central, open Send to Amazon and create your shipment.
- Enter your box contents and the weight and dimensions of each box.
- Confirm the shipping option and placement.
- Print the box labels. Each box gets its own unique label, so print one per box.
- Print the carrier labels for small parcel shipments.
Where to put the labels
- Place each box label on a side of the box, not across a seam or on a corner where it can bend.
- Keep the box label and carrier label next to each other but not overlapping.
- Remove or cover any old labels and barcodes so only the current ones can be scanned.
- Use a label that stays readable: print clearly, and avoid tape that covers the barcode with glare.
Common mistakes
- Reusing one label on several boxes. Every box needs its own label, or Amazon can’t match the contents.
- Box contents that don’t match. If what is inside differs from what you entered, units can go missing at check-in.
- Old barcodes left on reused boxes, which confuse scanners.
- Labels on the top seam, where they get cut when the box is opened.
