eBay Seller Fees in 2026: How Much eBay Takes, With Examples

By the Ask Ecommerce team. Updated November 5, 2026

Small business owners packing customer orders

eBay doesn’t charge you to open an account, and most sellers list for free. You pay when an item sells: a final value fee plus a small fee per order. Here is every eBay seller fee for 2026, how to calculate it, with examples, and how to lower what you pay.

Quick answer

For most categories, eBay charges a 13.6% final value fee on the total amount of the sale, up to $7,500 per item, plus a per-order fee of $0.30 on orders of $10 or less or $0.40 on orders over $10.

The fees you pay when you sell

Final value fee

A percentage of the total amount of the sale, which includes the item price, shipping and sales tax. It is 13.6% in most categories, dropping to 2.35% on the part of an item’s price above $7,500. Some categories, such as books, movies and jewelry, have their own rates, so check eBay’s fee table for yours.

Per-order fee

$0.30 for orders of $10 or less and $0.40 for orders over $10. It is charged once per order, so a buyer who buys three items in one order adds one per-order fee.

Listing fees

Sellers without a Store get 250 free listings a month. After that, most categories cost a $0.35 insertion fee per listing, whether or not the item sells. Optional upgrades, such as extra listing features, cost more.

Optional costs

  • Promoted Listings: your ad rate is charged on top of the final value fee when a sale comes from the ad, or per click on cost-per-click campaigns.
  • eBay Store subscriptions: monthly plans that include more free listings. Basic and higher Stores also lower the final value fee in most categories.
  • International sales: an extra fee applies when you sell to buyers outside the US.

Worked examples

$30 T-shirt with free shipping: 13.6% of $30 is $4.08, plus $0.40 per order, for $4.48 in eBay fees.

$100 item plus $8 shipping: 13.6% of $108 is $14.69, plus $0.40, for $15.09 in fees. Add sales tax to the total if your buyer pays it, since it counts toward the final value fee.

Same $30 T-shirt with a 5% ad rate: add $1.50 for the promoted sale, for $5.98 in total.

How to lower your eBay fees

  • Price shipping fairly. High shipping charges raise the total the final value fee is based on.
  • Open a Store once you regularly list more than 250 items or sell enough for the lower Store rate to cover the subscription.
  • Use Promoted Listings selectively, on items with margin to spare.
  • Keep strong seller performance. Top Rated Plus listings get a discount on fees, and below-standard performance can add fees.
