You can’t just sign up and start selling on Walmart Marketplace. First you apply, Walmart reviews your business, and only after approval do you create your Seller Center account. Here is what you need and every step to open a Walmart seller account.
What you need before you apply
- A US business tax ID (EIN) and a W-9 or W-8 form. A Social Security number alone isn’t accepted.
- Proof of business address in the US.
- A track record of selling online, for example on Amazon, eBay or your own store.
- Products with GTINs, such as UPCs, in categories you can support.
- The ability to meet Walmart’s fulfillment and customer service standards.
How to open a Walmart seller account
- Apply on Walmart Marketplace with your business details, tax information, sales history and the categories you plan to sell in.
- Wait for review. Walmart checks your information and may ask for more documents. Answer quickly.
- Register in Seller Center once you are approved: create your login, accept the agreement and complete your company profile.
- Add payment and tax details so Walmart can pay you.
- Set up shipping and returns: shipping templates, handling times and your return address.
- List your first items and check that they publish correctly.
- Launch once Walmart confirms your account is ready.
Tips to get approved
- Use the exact legal business name and address from your tax documents.
- Show real marketplace experience and performance, such as ratings and order volume.
- Start with categories that don’t require extra approval.
- Make sure your website or storefronts look established and match the details you submit.
